The Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail Council is a
coalition of volunteers and public and private agencies leading the
effort to establish a multi-use trail across central California
that will extend from the Pacific Coast to the crest of the Sierra
Nevada linking communities to the outdoor environment, meeting the
growing recreational needs of our diverse state and fostering a greater
awareness and appreciation for each region's unique natural, historical
and cultural features.
Vision
Along the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail, residents and
visitors of varying ages and physical abilities will enjoy healthy
outdoor leisure activities year round and will experience the urban
greenbelt of the San Francisco Bay, the protected open space and
parkland of the East Bay, the rural landscapes of the San Joaquin River
Delta and Central Valley, the Mother Lode country and the forested
slopes of the Mokelmne River canyon and High Sierra.
Core Values
Health and fitness activities are encouraged by a
trail that provides residents a safe enjoyable place to bicycle,
hike, walk, jog or horseback ride or pursue other activities.
Enhanced community identity and social interaction
contributes to the quality of life for neighbors, families and
individuals coming together in six counties across the trail.
Alternative transportation along bikeways, walkways
and bridle paths along the trail results in cleaner air and a
healthier environment.
Natural resource protection ensures a legacy of open
space, riparian areas, old-growth forest and wildlife habitat for
future generations by defining some areas free of development.
Educational opportunities along the trail foster
public appreciation, protection and stewardship of the region's rich
natural environment and cultural heritage.
Enhanced economic value within adjacent communities
emerges as the trail draws tourism, attracts new businesses
and increases values of property near the trail.
